Thracian Cliffs Golf Course ready for Business

The Thracian Cliffs golf complex is already functioning, Tsonko Tsonev, the Mayor of the seaside town of Kavarna, announced today. Investment in the project amounts to €120 million. More than one hundred five-star apartments are ready and a luxury restaurant set twenty metres above the sea opened just a few days ago. The official opening of the golf complex is on May 21st.

When Thracian Cliffs opens the number of luxury golf courses set along the Bulgarian Black Sea coasts rises to three, together with the Black Sea Rama and Lighthouse Golf Resort which already attract golfers from around the world. Total investment in the three elite golf courses exceeds €320 million. According to experts the northern Bulgarian Black Sea coast is already turning into Bulgaria’s premier golf zone.

The luxurious development is set next to the village of Bozhurets, between the coastal towns of Kavarna and Balchik. It spans over 145 hectares on a south-facing plot and intends to become the biggest golf and spa development on the Balkan Peninsula.

Golf legend Gary Player designed the 18-hole golf course. According to him the Thracian Cliffs golf course is the best of all the three hundred courses that he has ever designed and the complex will be among the three best golf resorts in Europe. Thracian Cliffs is set amongst amazing nature and offers breathtaking panoramic sea views.

400000 visited Balchik Palace in 2010 .. more in 2011

The Palace complex in the Bulgarian Black Sea town of Balchik hosted more than 400000 visitors in 2010, according to a management press release issued on 6th April.

Balchik Palace – or Dvoretsa – was built in 1924 by Queen Maria of Romania at a time when the region of Southern Dobrudzha was part of Romania (1918-1940). It was subsequently integrated with the Balchik Botanical Gardens to create one of the most famous tourist sites on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast.

The Balchik Botanical Garden was established in 1940. It has an area of 65,000 square metres and accommodates more than 2000 plant species belonging to 85 families and 200 species. In May 2010, a government decision was made to transfer the Garden's management from Bulgaria's Sofia University, St Kliment Ohridski, to the Ministry of Culture, which caused a long-running battle between the two institutions. Earlier on Wednesday, however, the University won back its right to manage the Gardens.

A record number of tourists visited the Balchik Palace complex in August 2010, announced the Director, Toshko Gyaurov, on Wednesday. "This amounted to 40% of the year's total visitors ..." he continued "... and this helped us to generate revenues of BGN 2.5million in 2010."

Director Gyaurov said that BGN 4million has been invested in the complex over the past 5 years and that a further BGN 280,000 has been allocated for maintenance and infrastructure development of Dvoretsa and the adjacent beach before the 2011 summer tourist season starts. On this basis, it is expected that every month in the summer of 2011 will be just as successful for the Balchik complex as was August 2010.

Yahoo! Travel Magazine Ranks Bulgaria among Top 10 Destinations

Bulgaria is among the top 10 most affordable destinations in the world according to the German-language Yahoo! Travel Magazine.

The other countries where Europeans can go a long way with their Euro for a memorable holiday are Malaysia, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Croatia, Turkey, Egypt and Hungary.

Bulgaria expects a significant influx of tourists around the Easter Holidays and travel analysts are predicting that in 2010 the tourist industry will return to its pre-crisis levels with growing interest towards event tourism.

The beach resort of Albena, which is the largest of those closest to the Bulgarian - Romanian border, expects about 3000 visitors over the Easter holidays and the smaller resorts on the northern Black Sea coast also anticipate filling their hotels by offering discounts and bonuses.

200 tourists are expected in the town of Balchik while 50% of the beds of the vacation village adjacent to the beautiful Balchik Palace are already taken. The management expect to reach full capacity with Romanians driving to the resort without reservations.

Resorts on the southern Black Sea coast are also expecting high bookings with guests from Romania, Western Europe and Russia.
