An increase of around 10% in the number of foreign holidaymakers during the summer seasonfor 2011 is expected, according to the Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov.
Speaking in Plovdiv where he was opening 'Spiritual Mirror', this year's exhibition of children's artwork, Traikov said that tourist numbers have risen each year, adding that the highest growth so far is expected in 2011. Russian tourists would contribute the most to the increase with 30% more visiting Bulgaria compared with previous seasons.
The rising trend includes both traditional seasonal vacations and alternative forms of tourism such as: culture, religion, wine, SPA and country tours.
According to Traikov, the upcoming strong summer season can be further attributed to the recent advertisement campaign to showcase Bulgaria as an attractive tourist destination. The campaign was financed by his Ministry with funds from the EU operational programme for Regional Development.
